Preschool Assistants at HBCPK must meet requirements set by our accrediting body, Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) as well as Department of Social Services, Virginia. For state requirements, each assistant must have a physical, pass background checks, submit to fingerprinting, complete Daily Health Observation Course, Child Abuse/Neglect course, Blood borne Pathogens course and complete 16 hours of continuing education in the field of Early Childhood annually. For ACSI, Assistants must not only meet state requirements, but also take a course called Principles and Practices of Early Childhood Education, attend 4 hours of Bible study, and have a minimum of 1 college level class in Early Childhood if they carry a degree in another field, or they must attain a credential in Early Childhood if they do not have a degree. All staff must be professing Christians, be growing in their faith, and attend church on a regular basis. Many of our assistants have above and beyond what is required.
Mrs. Jenny Brandt begins her 9th year as a teaching assistant. She spent three years assisting in Pre K, and this is her 6th year assisting with the threes, each MWF morning with Mrs. Hackler. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from George Mason University. She has completed the Preschool Endorsement Credential with the state of Virginia. Mrs. Brandt is married with two children and attends Park Valley Church. She enjoys spending time with her family and dogs, and going to the beach. She has a real heart for animal rescue, and it's so appropriate as a dog lover that she is assisting in the Puppy Class! She loves working with the children in every area and looks forward to sharing her day with some of our youngest students!
Mrs. Jill Christopher begins her 11th year as an assistant teacher at HBCPK. She spent 4 years assisting in the 2's program and now begins her 7th year in the T/Th 3’s! She has her Bachelor's Degree from Radford and her Master's in Health Education from Virginia Tech. Jill is married with four boys, all graduates of HBCPK! She attends Park Valley Church. Jill enjoys time with her family at the beach or hiking or camping. She loves to see wonder and excitement in a child's eyes as they learn. She is a sweet and gentle spirit that will make each child feel loved and special. You will love to have her assisting your child in the Puppy Class with Mrs. Hackler.
Mrs. Heidi Evans begins her 6th year at HBCPK, and will be assisting Mrs. McNeil in the afternoon Pre K Popcorn class, and also assisting Mrs. Adams T/Th mornings in the 3's class. She continues to leads the Wednesday morning Pee Wee Fitness ( for the 4 yr olds) and Musical Moves (for the 3 yr olds). Mrs. Evans is married with 2 daughters (alumni grads- HBCPK) and she attends Gainesville United Methodist Church. She is the proud mama to her goldendoodle named Millie! She is a graduate of The Ohio State University(go Buckeyes!) with her major in Child and Family Studies. Heidi is bubbly, energetic and loves these little ones!
Mrs. Dawn Exner returns for her 5th year as an assistant, assisting Mrs. Adams with the MWF morning 3's class. Dawn has subbed for us, while her children attended HBCPK, then spent several years with the MWF 4’s. Dawn is married, has four children and a dog named Mocha. She attends Park Valley Church where she has been active in the church nursery- 4th grade, and attending Bible Study or teaching Sunday School. Mrs. Exner graduated from Kent State with a degree in Fine Arts, and enjoys golfing,swimming, cooking and baking! She loves knowing that everything is new and exciting to preschoolers- something we forget as adults- and she gets to be a part of that excitement at our school.
Mrs. Gaioni is the Tuesday/ Thursday assistant to Mrs. Abbott in the 2 1/2's class and is in her 3rd year at HBCPK. Shannon is married and has two children,both HBCPK graduates. She enjoys anything creative-party planning, photography and crafting! The Gaionis worship at Park Valley Church. Mrs. Gaioni is pursing her Early Childhood credential by attending classes at NOVA. She enjoys time with her family and being a part of the team here at school! She believes you must not only lead children by your words, but also by your example!
Mrs. Kerry Good begins her 2nd year as an assistant this year, and previously has been an active substitute and parent volunteer for about six years. Kerry assists Mrs. Stone in the afternoon pre kindergarten program-Bears class. Mrs. Good is married with two children, both HBCPK alumni, she attends and is active at Park Valley Church with MOPS, Bible study and children's ministry. Kerry is a graduate of George Mason University. She enjoys walking and cooking. Mrs. Good loves watching children grow and learn- the fundamentals, reading and mostly about God!
Mrs. Jin Hwang begins her 3rd year at HBCPK. She assists Mrs. Adams in the MWF afternoon 3's class as well as the T/Th afternoon 3’s. Jin has been a floater and a Pee Wee Workout assistant her 1st year with us. Jin has 3 children that are all graduates of HBCPK (now they are teenagers!). She is married and their family attends church at Ambassador Bible Church. Mrs. Hwang is a graduate of George Mason with her BS in Psychology. She loves to crochet, try new recipes, she volunteer and teaches Sunday School at her church. Her favorite Bible verse is Romans 8:38-39 which she says comforts her knowing the nothing can separate her from God and His love. She loves being a part of HBCPK, and sharing Jesus with all the children.
Mrs. Kelly Johannesen assists Mrs. Gibbs in morning Pre K for her 3rd year. She comes to us with a degree in Animal Science from VA Tech (another Hokie at HBCPK) and loads of experience from C.Hunter Richie Elementary as a long term sub pre k- 5th, and active with PTO committees. She attends Broad Run Baptist Church, is married, has three daughters and a dog named Angus! Kelly is one of our experts on food allergies. She is active in her church, and her children's schools and sports. She is assisting in the Fox Den again this year!
Mrs. Katya Mandeville begins her 2nd year at HBCPK as a classroom assistant, and previously did part time floating and subbing in many classrooms. She will be assisting Mrs. Goff in Pre K afternoons Monday- Friday in the Monkey class! The Mandeville's have two children, both HBCPK graduates. Katya is originally from Quito, Ecuador and has her degree from American College/Ecuador is in Marketing Technology. Katya is currently taking Early Education classes at NOVA. She attends both Holy Trinity Church and Park Valley Church. In her free time, Katya loves cooking and working out, but her number one priority is taking care of her family. She says that children are full of innocence and love, and she believes that every day they have something to teach us!
Mrs. Mateer returns for her 11th year as an assistant teacher. She is married with three sons who were all graduates of HBCPK. Cheryl attends St. Katherine Drexel Church. She has completed classes at NOVA in Early Childhood Education. Her hobbies include gardening, anything that involves the outdoors and being a mom to soccer-playing boys! She enjoys being with preschoolers, loves giving out hugs and kisses, helping children adjust to preschool and encouraging each child have a great day while in her care. Mrs. Mateer assists Mrs. Monfort in the MWF morning and afternoon young 4's class- the Owls!
Mrs. Snyder is assisting the W/F 2 1/2 yr old class for the third year with Mrs. Abbott. She is married, the mom of two children (one attending HBCPK, and one graduate). She has a dog named Tex and attends Mountain Top Church in Manassas. Her degree is from VA Tech- go Hokies! She enjoys working out, spending time with friends, watching her husband play baseball and playing with her children. She says that children are such a rich blessing- innocent, honest and full of life! Lindsey is currently pursuing her Early Childhood Credential and looks forward to being with the 2's each week.
Mrs. Kelly Stone begins her 9th year at HBCPK. She is assisting Mrs. Goff's Monkey class in the morning this year and lead teaching in the afternoons/Pre K Bears Class. Over the years, Mrs. Stone has taught Kindergarten P.E., assisted the morning 3's and been the lead teacher for MWF young fours. Kelly has her Early Childhood Education degree from Vanguard University in California, and her teaching credential from Association of Christian Schools Internationals (ACSI). She is returning to Liberty University to gain a Bachelors in Elementary Education. Kelly enjoys spending time outdoors with her family, hiking, walking her dog, Lucy and distance racing (she’s doing a half Ironman this fall). Two of her daughters are graduate alumni of HBCPK. Mrs. Stone attends The Way Church in Warrenton and she enjoys teaching children about God's love and care for each of us.
Mrs. Knutson begins her 1st year with us as Mrs. McNeil’s morning Pre K assistant. She has taught Pre K with Abeka at a previous school, and worked at several local elementary schools as an assistant with special education students. She is married and has two children. She attends Grace Life Community Church. Jennifer loves to cook, and has had her own cake shop! This fall she returns to school, pursuing a dual degree- Early Childhood and Special Education. Her favorite Bible verse is Psalm 32:8- I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you. She is looking forward to the year, helping children learn and grow-grasping reading and writing concepts- exciting accomplishments!
Mrs. Peverill joins the staff this year as the assistant for Mrs. Hackler’s afternoon 4’s. Melissa has been a long time active and volunteering parent at HBCPK while her children attended school here. The Peverills have 5 children and worship at Park Valley Church. Melissa attended community college and taught at the Phonics Factory Preschool for 8 years. She loves preschoolers and is excited to instill in them a love for learning. Her favorite Bible verse is excerpts from 1 Corinthians 13- the love chapter- verses 4-7. Mrs. Peverill enjoys bike riding, family adventures, swimming- anything where memories can be made with those she loves.
