Preschool Teachers

 
 

Preschool Teachers at HBCPK must meet requirements set by the Department of Social Services, VA and by our accrediting body- Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Teachers must be CPR/First Aid trained, have a physical, pass background checks, submit to fingerprinting, complete several courses: Daily Health Observations, Blood borne Pathogens, and Child/Abuse and Neglect class and attain 16 hours of professional development/continuing education in the field of Early Childhood annually. For our accreditation, lead teachers must have either a degree in the field of Education or Early Childhood, or possess a degree out of field, but have completed a minimum of 2 college level classes in Early Ed, or a Child Development Credential. Teachers must complete Principles and Practices of Early Childhood Education course, be a professing, church going Christian, and attend Bible study. Every teacher at HBCPK has met or exceeds the requirements set by the state of Virginia and ACSI standards.

 

Kristine Adams

Mrs. Kristine Adams teaches 3 classes for our school! She teaches MWF am and pm 3’s, as well as T/Th am! Previously Kristine assisted in the afternoon Pre k program for 2 years and this is her 9th year with the 3-year-olds. She is married with 3 children (the youngest two are HBCPK alumni) and stays busy with a variety of sports and school activities with her children. She loves to read and go to the beach.  Mrs. Adams has a BS in Management from Lock Haven University and received her Preschool Early Education Endorsement Credential from the state of Virginia and her Educator's Credential from the Association of Christian Schools International.  She attends Holy Trinity Catholic Church where she is teaching CCD classes. Her favorite verse is Jeremiah 29:11 “God knows the plans for our future…He is our hope”  It will be 'oceans of fun' in Mrs. Adams sea-themed classroom! Your children will enjoy meeting Squirt, the sea turtle (puppet) this year! She is excited to create a warm, nurturing classroom experience with your children!


JANINE BONNER

Mrs. Janine Bonner previously was the MWF am/pm 4’s teacher and has lead a Morning Pre-K class last year, and this upcoming year, as well. Many years ago, Mrs. Bonner’s son attended HBCPK, and he is now in college! Janine has 15 years of previous teaching experience and is excited to be back ‘where it all started’! She is married with 2 grown sons and attends church at Park Valley. She is a graduate of JMU with a degree in Psychology. She has received her ACSI Teaching Credential. Mrs. Bonner enjoys walking, yoga, and going to Smith Mountain Lake. She is looking forward to spending time with the 4’s, and seeing many of their ‘first tries’ at new skills. Her favorite verse is Colossians 3:12- it reminds her of what it means to be a good teacher.


TISHA BROWN

Mrs. Tisha Brown begins her 13th year at HBCPK and is the 2 1/2-year-old teacher on Wednesdays and Fridays as well as the MWF afternoon 4’s.  The 2’s will be blessed to have Mrs. Brown’s sweet spirit in our ‘Little Birds’ class! Tisha has been an active volunteer at HBCPK as well as the music assistant, Lego Club instructor, Engineering for Kids instructor, and head floater, and spent many years assisting in Pre K. She is a graduate of Texas Bible Institute and has worked in children's ministry since she was a teenager. She has completed the Preschool Endorsement Credential with the state of Virginia, she completed her AA in Early Education, and has received her ACSI teaching credential, too.  Tisha is married with 2 children (both alumni at HBCPK) and attends Park Valley Church.  She enjoys reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her family. She is a proud Texan!   Mrs. Brown will also be floating and helping with technology at school this year- one busy lady!


Vicky Hackler

Mrs. Vicky Hackler begins her 13th year at HBCPK. She has been a music assistant, then 5 years as a preschool assistant, and 6 years as a lead teacher in the 3's classes. This year Mrs. Hackler will teach MWF morning 3’s, and an MWF afternoon young 4’s class. Vicky has a degree in Psychology from Randolph-Macon. She has completed her Early Education Credential, graduated with honors,  and received her Educator's Credential from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI).  Mrs. Hackler is married and has 3 children, all alumni of HBCPK and all three attending a variety of Virginia colleges. She is a dog-lover and shares her home with Charlie, a Cavalier/Papillion mix.  Vicky attends Park Valley Church and enjoys time at the beach with family and friends and taking long walks. As a dog lover- how appropriate that her class is the Puppy Class! It will be a 'tail-waggin' year with Mrs. Hackler! Be sure to be on the lookout for Sugar, Mrs. Hackler’s sweet puppy puppet! She is looking forward to helping children have some fun, lots of love, and learning during the year.


BRITTANY JAckson

Mrs. Brittany Jackson will be teaching the MWF young 4's class in the mornings- welcome to the world of Busy Bees!! Mrs. Jackson graduated from Christopher Newport University with an Education degree and a minor in Psychology. She taught Kindergarten for 6 years in Manassas and then stayed home to have to start her family. Brittany is married and has 2 children, both attending HBCPK. The Jacksons attend Chapel Springs Church. Brittany has always felt called to work with children and impact their lives not only academically, but spiritually as well.


Betty McNeil

Mrs. Betty McNeil has been a teacher here at our school for over 25 years. She continues in her role as Pre K teacher for the PM session of Pre-K classes. She has four children who attended our school many years ago, and now are college graduates! She is the proud grandma to two sweet little boys and one is HBCPK graduate. Mrs. McNeil is an avid Jazzerciser and enjoys travel and going to the beach and cheering for the Nats and Caps!! She graduated from Radford University with a degree in Business and has completed her teaching credential through the Association of Christian Schools International. The McNeils attend church at Park Valley. Mrs. McNeil is known for her fun themes, like outer space, dinosaurs, and tracing everyone's shape while we learn about the parts of the body! Your child will meet Kernel, the puppet! She has a very calm and positive atmosphere in her classroom which makes for a great day for all! Good things are always 'popping up' in the Popcorn class with Mrs. McNeil!!


AsHley Parker

Mrs. Ashley Parker teaches our oldest Pre- K students (young 5’s) in the nautical-themed room, with her Sailor Bear mascot! It is her 3rd year in this role. This Captain’s Crew will work at a faster pace, with additional curriculum and skills for these 5-year-old students. Ashley is married with 4 daughters who have previously attended HBCPK. Mrs. Parker graduated from Virginia Tech with a BS in Child Development and then went on to George Mason for her Masters and teaching credential. She previously taught Kindergarten at HBCPK. The Parkers attend Park Valley Church, where she has been active in the Early Childhood ministry. Her favorite verse is 1st Corinthians 13:13- the greatest of these is love! Ashley loves crafts, reading, Pilates, and spending time with family and friends.


MELISSA PEVERILL

Mrs. Peverill begins her 5th year at HBCPK. She previously assisted Mrs. Hackler in the MWF 4’s, and now begins her 4th year of teaching Pre-K in Room 23. Her class is the Farm Friends- with a farm animal theme! Your children will meet ‘Cuddles, the Cow’ (puppet)! Melissa has been a long-time volunteer parent at HBCPK while her children attended school here (they are all alumni now). The Peverills have 5 children and a dog named Bella. The family worships at Park Valley Church. Melissa attended community college and was the lead teacher at the Phonics Factory Preschool in Oregon for 5 years and has numerous other teaching experiences of all ages. Mrs. Peverill has received her Preschool Endorsement Credential in Early Childhood Education from Virginia, she finished her AA in Early Education and received her teaching credential from ACSI. She loves preschoolers and is excited to instill in them a love for learning. Her favorite Bible verses are excerpts from 1 Corinthians 13- the love chapter- verses 4-7. Mrs. Peverill enjoys bike riding, family adventures, swimming- anything where memories can be made with those she loves.
