Preschool Teachers
Preschool Teachers at HBCPK must meet requirements set by the Department of Social Services, VA and by our accrediting body- Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Teachers must be CPR/First Aid trained, have a physical, pass background checks, submit to fingerprinting, complete several courses: Daily Health Observations, Blood borne Pathogens, and Child/Abuse and Neglect class and attain 16 hours of professional development/continuing education in the field of Early Childhood annually. For our accreditation, lead teachers must have either a degree in the field of Education or Early Childhood, or possess a degree out of field, but have completed a minimum of 2 college level classes in Early Ed, or a Child Development Credential. Teachers must complete Principles and Practices of Early Childhood Education course, be a professing, church going Christian, and attend Bible study. Every teacher at HBCPK has met or exceeds the requirements set by the state of Virginia and ACSI standards.
JANINE BONNER
Mrs. Janine Bonner previously was the MWF am/pm 4’s teacher and for the past several years she has been the lead teacher in morning Pre-K. Many years ago, Mrs. Bonner’s son attended HBCPK, and he is now in college! Her older son is married and expecting Mrs. Bonner’s first grandchild! Janine has 15 years of previous preschool teaching experience, and is now on year 5 with us. You will find Mrs. Bonner leading the children gently and patiently- she has the sweetest demeanor! She is married with 2 grown sons, one is married, and attends church at Park Valley. The Bonners also have 2 pups! She is a graduate of JMU with a degree in Psychology. She has received her ACSI Teaching Credential. Mrs. Bonner enjoys walking, yoga, and going to Smith Mountain Lake. She is looking forward to spending time with the 4’s, and seeing many of their ‘first tries’ at new skills. Her favorite verse is Colossians 3:12- it reminds her of what it means to be a good teacher.
TISHA BROWN
Mrs. Tisha Brown begins her 17th year at HBCPK and is the 2 1/2-year-old teacher Tues- Friday mornings, then she puts her hat on for the MWF 4’s and Pre K combo afternoon class… The 2’s will be blessed to have Mrs. Brown’s sweet spirit in our ‘Little Birds’ class! And our 4’s will have a blast in the afternoon Popcorn class! Tisha has been an active volunteer at HBCPK as well as the music assistant, Lego Club instructor, Engineering for Kids instructor, and head floater, and spent many years assisting in Pre K, you will also find her after school in Cub Club. She is a graduate of Texas Bible Institute and has worked in children's ministry since she was a teenager. She has completed the Preschool Endorsement Credential with the state of Virginia, she completed her AA in Early Education, and has received her ACSI teaching credential, too. Tisha is married with 2 children (both alumni at HBCPK) and attends Haymarket Baptist Church and her house includes two kitties named Luna and Shadow. She enjoys reading, going to the beach, and spending time with her family. She is a proud Texan and Cowboy fan. Mrs. Brown’s favorite verse is Psalm 37:4- Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart! Her 2’s assistants are Ashley Edwards on T/Th and Michelle Shaddrix on W/F. :) and in the 4’s class it is Trisha Schreiber.
Vicky Hackler
Mrs. Vicky Hackler begins her 18th year at HBCPK. She has been a music assistant, then 5 years as a preschool assistant, and 10 years as a lead teacher in the 3's classes. Mrs. Hackler teaches a MWF morning 3’s, and an afternoon 3’s class on MWF and will also teach T/Th morning 3’s all in room 26! Vicky has a degree in Psychology from Randolph-Macon. She has completed her Early Education Credential, graduated with honors, and received her Educator's Credential from the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI). Mrs. Hackler is married and has 3 children, all alumni of HBCPK and all three are either college grads, and the last one is almost finished. She is a dog-lover and shares her home with Charlie, a Cavalier/Papillion mix. Vicky attends Park Valley Church and enjoys time at the beach with family and friends and taking long walks. As a dog lover- how appropriate that her class is the Puppy Class! It will be a 'tail-waggin' year with Mrs. Hackler! Be sure to be on the lookout for Sugar, Mrs. Hackler’s sweet puppy puppet! She is looking forward to helping children have some fun, lots of love, and learning during the year. Her assistants are MWF am:Dawn Exner, T/TH am Katya Mandeville and MWF pm- Shannon Gaioni— all experienced long time assistants- it is a fabulous team!
AMY HOgan
We welcome Mrs. Amy Hogan to our school- she will be teaching mornings and afternoons Pre K in room 23! Amy comes to us with a great background in preschool education- with 6 years at a private preschool and 2 years at a public school preschool, locally. She attended Tidewater Community College and VCU as well. The Hogans worship at Holy Trinity Catholic Church and have 4 grown children (one son at Liberty University) and a grandchild, too. Their home includes a pup named Baxter, and a cat named Bennie. Amy’s favorite verse is Proverbs 30:5- “Every word of God is flawless; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.” Amy enjoys scrapbooking, making cards, reading traveling, and spending time with family. She enjoys watching the children grow, and discover the joy and wonder in learning new things- she’s excited to be on the journey with them this year!
Betty Jo Goff
Mrs. Betty Jo Goff returns!! Yes, our long time Pre K teacher pre-Covid, our amazing Farmer Goff chapel teacher is returning to the classroom in Room 22! Betty Jo will host the Goose class—- a gaggle of fun, learning, puppets, and music! Mrs. Goff will be teaching our Young 5’s morning students, with a fun and challenging curriculum for those big 5 yr olds! She is married and attends Park Valley Church with her husband and they are very active in several ministries there. She has a liberal arts degree from NOVA and she is an author of a series of children’s books about Farmer Jo. She has 30 years of teaching experience! Betty Jo’s students will learn lots of sign language along the way as well! She is Gigi to her grandchildren who also attend HBCPK! Her favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9…”Be strong and courageous, do not be afraid, do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Her favorite part of teaching is being a small part of watching children grow in kindness and faith- moments that can have lasting spiritual impact! Her assistant is Mrs. Mateer- a long time coworker and friend- a great team!
Maggie mc cartin
Mrs. McCartin returns for year 2- adding a new class to her schedule (besides Kindergarten PE and STEM)- she’s now the MWF am 3’s Whale class teacher! Maggie is married with two young sons who attend HBCPK. She has a cute rescue dog named Bella. Maggie is from Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Lock Haven University with a degree in Elementary Education. She attends Holy Trinity Catholic Church. Maggie has 11 years of teaching in her background at another private school. Her favorite Bible verse is Matt 28:20- It is important to know that we are never alone, because God is there- in good and tough times. Her favorite aspects of teaching are seeing how children learn best, how they show love and getting to meet their familes! She enjoys fitness and coaching as well- and you might see her teaching PE or coaching our K Running Club. Her teammate is Brittany Augliera- and they are a fun pair together!
Kelley Rodgers
Mrs. Rodgers is in her 2nd year of teaching the Busy Bees morning MWF young 4’s class in Room 25. Kelley has 7 years of preschool teaching experience at another Christian School- she is experienced with both the 3’s and 4’s! Mrs. Rodgers attended Virginia Tech with a BS in Human Development including a concentration in Early Childhood. The Rodgers attend Park Valley Church and have 4 children- two young enough to be here at HBCPK. They also have 2 pups- Captain and Cinderella! Mrs. Rodgers loves scrapbooking, art/painting and reading. One thing she LOVES about children is their sense of wonder- she’s looking forward to knowing your kiddos and sharing the wonder of God’s creation with them. Her favorite Bible verse is Genesis 9:16- it’s the verse about God setting the rainbow in the sky after the flood- it reminds her that God is faithful and keeps his promises! Assisting in the Busy Bees is Bella Greenstreet- the hive will be buzzing with learning, laughter and love this year!
