Kindergarten Assistants at HBCPK must meet requirements set by our accrediting body, Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) as well as Department of Social Services, Virginia. For state requirements, each assistant must have a physical, pass background checks, submit to fingerprinting, complete Daily Health Observation Course, Child Abuse/Neglect course, Blood borne Pathogens course and complete 16 hours of continuing education in the field of Early Childhood annually. For ACSI, Assistants must not only meet state requirements, but also take a course called Principles and Practices of Early Childhood Education, attend 4 hours of Bible study, and have a minimum of 1 college level class in Early Childhood if they carry a degree in another field, or they must attain a credential in Early Childhood if they do not have a degree. All staff must be professing Christians, be growing in their faith, and attend church on a regular basis. Many of our assistants have above and beyond what is required.
Mrs. Marchand begins her 12th year at our school (1 year in Preschool and 11 years of our Kindergarten program). Tammy assists Team K on M,W,F. She also is our testing coordinator for all standardized testing. She has two children who are alumni of our preschool and kindergarten programs and is a longtime substitute teacher in the PWC public school system. She has her B.A. degree in Political Science from DePauw University and has her Early Childhood Endorsement from the State of Virginia. Tammy is Lutheran. She loves running, music, watching sports with her family, and cheering on the Baylor Bears University Softball Team where her daughter plays. She loves having an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of young children.
Mrs. Dempsey begins her 2nd year at HBCPK, first as a floater and now K assistant on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, additionally she has substituted and been an active parent volunteer for the past 5 years. Sarah is married with three children- all HBCPK graduates. Mrs. Dempsey is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a BS in Marketing Management. The Dempsey family attends Park Valley Church. Sarah enjoys going to the beach, having fun in ALL things. Among her favorites are: spending time with family, actively helping her dad with Snyder Baseball, and cheering on her brothers who play professional baseball. She has spent lots of time helping in Kindergarten and is looking forward to Hot Lunch, Spa Day, International Lunch, Field Day and all the fun Kindergarten specific activities that await your child!
Mrs. Corinne Coppolo will be teaching Kindergarten Physical Education this year on Tuesday mornings to all 3 K classes. P.E. will follow the county SOL’s as well as learn many new games, skills and concepts- with a focus on character, sportsmanship and taking care of the bodies God gave us! Corinne is married, and has 3 chidlren (all attended HBCPK) and the Coppolo family worships at Grace Life Community Church. Mrs. Coppolo is active in the womens and children’s ministry there, as well as VBS and Sunday School Director. She enjoys running, and all fitness activities and spending time with her family. A graduate of George Mason, she majored in Psychology. Currently Corrine is studying for her Personal Trainer Certification and her specialization in Group Training and Youth Exercise. She is excited to share her love of health and fitness with our K students.
Mrs. Karen Baker teaches Music every Thursday morning to our Kindergarten students. They will follow the Standards of Learning set by PWCS. The students will learn about composers, hymn writers, rhythm, symphony/orchestera-instruments, classical music, notes/rests, steady beat, and many fun engaging songs from a variety of genres including Christian music, and preparation for many seasonal performances, and a performance at the town tree lighting in December. Mrs. Baker is married with FIVE children! Her family attends Grace Life Community Church. Karen is and has been a piano teacher for 20 years. She’s been a Sunday School Teacher for 25 years, and is actively involved with VBS and church activities that include children! Originally from Michigan, she attended Grand Rapids Community College while pursuing her degree in Child Development. Her favorite things to do include time with family- especially baseball games. Her favorite verse is Luke 1:37- Nothing is impossible with God!
